Lacoste

The large number of LACOSTE fans in Ukraine led to the opening of a new boutique for the French brand in the “Manufaсtura” outlet village. The year 2013 was marked by several interesting projects in LACOSTE’s history, all timed to coincide with the celebration of the brand’s anniversary in the fashion industry. One of them is the opening of a concept Lacoste outlet, specially designed by architects.

Do you know the story behind the brand’s origins? Let me take you back in time, to the very beginnings, to the birth of the logo and the Lacoste brand itself.

The company was named by its founder—the famous French tennis player René Lacoste. Monsieur Lacoste succeeded not only in sports but also in the world of fashion. In 1923, René Lacoste won the Davis Cup, after which the national team coach presented him with a crocodile-skin suitcase. Following this event, the nickname “crocodile” stuck to the champion; moreover, it aptly characterized Lacoste’s tenacious athletic grip and his character. A close friend of René’s picked up on this idea and drew a crocodile for Lacoste, which was later embroidered on the athlete’s shirt. In 1927, the U.S. Open tennis tournament took place, in which René competed while already wearing a shirt with a crocodile embroidered on it. When Lacoste won the tournament, he never imagined that this would also be the first step on his path to the world of fashion, or that the short-sleeved knit shirt would become so popular worldwide.

René Lacoste ended his athletic career in 1933, deciding to enter the fashion industry. Together with André Gillier, the manager of a knitwear company, he created a brand named after himself—Lacoste.

Today, on average, two items from this successful brand—which has been on the market for over 75 years—are sold every second worldwide.

You can see all of the brand’s lines at the “Manufaсtura” outlet village.

It is precisely these unique items, which blend perfectly with a basic wardrobe and create trendy combinations, that you can find in the LACOSTE section at the “Manufactura” outlet village.
